A network of conservative Anglican churches across Africa and Asia has responded to the announcement of Dame Sarah Mullally as the next Archbishop of Canterbury. GAFCON said the majority of the Anglican Communion believes that the Bible requires male only leadership. They’ve also objected to her support for the blessings of same sex couples – they called her teachings regarding marriage and sexual morality “unbiblical and revisionist”. However, the Archbishop of Cape Town, Thabo Makgoba said Dame Sarah’s appointment was a “thrilling development”. Meanwhile, here in the UK, the Church of England Evangelical Council has called for their members to pray that Bishop Sarah will hold to the apostolic faith and recommit to the historic doctrines of the Church.
