Mid-City Christian Ministry Network SoNoGo South Park-North Park-Golden Hill is glad to join you today.

Do the Christian churches on and off 30th Street in San Diego have enough room to host the 45,773 people who live in 92104 and the 40,083 people who live in 92102? Add part of 92116 with 31,470 people and we have a large population to minister to.

We call this SoNoGo - South Park-North Park-Golden Hill

Christ United Presbyterian Church of San Diego

Christ United Presbyterian Church is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA). Rev. Dr. Kerry Allison is the pastor of this parish church in South Park. We were established in 1981 when an invitation was extended to two churches—Brooklyn Heights Presbyterian, established in 1921 and the Golden Hill Presbyterian, established in 1956—to merge and each church accepted. The late Reverend Doctor George Walker Smith founded Golden Hill Presbyterian Church in 1956 with support from the Presbyterian Women organization. The church, located at 22nd and Market in South Park, became a human rights leader in San Diego as the congregation grew. Reverend Smith was the first black school board member in San Diego. May he rest in peace and rise in glory. Christ United continues its ministry in power and presence to the present day. All are welcome to join us in worship and togetherness.

St. Luke's Episcopal Church

St. Luke's North Park is a Christian community praising God and seeking justice and healing in this dynamic neighborhood of San Diego since 1923.  We strive to create spaces for God’s grace to form life-changing relationships with Christ and each other across lines of prejudice and privilege. In the past three decades, God has led us to a new blessing: to serve as one of the primary congregations and cultural centers for South Sudanese Americans in the city, and more recently, for former Congolese refugees. Worshiping with our diverse community is a joyous experience that includes singing in Arabic and Swahili, and individuals from around the globe and the U.S., united by our found “home” at St. Luke’s and in Christ.  Our infant, toddler, children, and youth ministries are full and thriving, thanks be to God! We are proud partners with RefugeeNet, a non-profit dedicated to the well-being of refugee families. We’re also grateful to host sixteen twelve-step support meetings on campus each week.

Saint Patrick Catholic Parish

Father Gregory Ashe was the founding pastor of St. Patrick’s parish, beginning in 1921 and serving until 1925 when he was replaced by Father Thomas Healy, the parish’s second pastor, and first Augustinian.  Father Ashe eventually returned to Buffalo, New York to serve in parish work.  He died there in 1934.  Father Healy served as pastor of St. Patrick’s for a year and a half, after which he returned to Pennsylvania. He died a short time later in January 1927 at the age of 54.  Both Fathers Ashe and Healy were born in Ireland. The 1920s were good to San Diego and the community of North Park.  Businesses were thriving, new arrivals spurred development, and optimism was high.  Under Father Daley’s guidance, the parish decided to commit to the construction of a magnificent structure, Romanesque in style, using the best architecture and artistry available.  Frank Hope was contracted as the architect and the M.H. Golden company did the construction.  The contract was signed on October 15th, 1928, and work began almost immediately.  Amazingly, the church, the present structure, was finished by Easter Sunday, 1929, in just about six months, but it wasn’t dedicated until September 1929.  The cost of the structure was $37,000, and with all the interior additions the cost of the project was around $60,000.  Father Daley and the parishioners of St. Patrick’s were justifiably proud of their accomplishments.  The next step would be the construction of a school, and it probably would have gone forward but for one obstacle: the stock market crash of 1929 and the Great Depression.

Trinity United Methodist Church

Trinity United Methodist Church has been part of the North Park community since 1915, bringing warmth and connection to our neighbors for over 100 years. We seek to KNOW, LOVE, and SERVE God and our neighbors through study, worship, community events, outreach and service projects, and having fun together! We'd love to have you join us as we grow in faith and love here in North Park.

Plymouth Church

Covenant Presbyterian Church

Covenant Church at 30th & Howard  is a Christian church in the tradition of the Protestant Reformation and allied with the EPC [The Evangelical Presbyterian Church] We believe the Scriptures to be the infallible Word of God and our final authority in faith and practice, and we find the historic creeds of the early church (the Apostles’ Creed and Nicene Creed) to be vital expressions of the most important tenets of the global church universal. When the EPC started in 1981, we determined that we would not disagree on the basic essentials of the Christian faith, but on anything that was not essential—such as the issue of ordaining women as officers or practicing charismatic gifts—we would give each other liberty. Above all, we committed ourselves to loving each other and not engaging in quarrels and strife. The result is that when we get together in our regional and national meetings, we spend most of our time in worship and fellowship and almost none in arguing with each other.

San Diego Japanese Christian Church

San Diego Japanese Christian Church (SDJCC) is here to share the good news that a dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord is the key to abundant living in today’s world. Our church was founded as an outreach to Japanese speaking farmers in San Diego County over 80 years ago. SDJCC now has English and Japanese speaking ministries. It’s easy to miss, tucked away at the elbow of 19th and E streets just above Interstate 5: the Japanese American Christian Church in Golden Hill. You’d most likely drive past this humble place of worship on the way up Broadway without noticing it, but if you happened to be on a stroll down E Street looking at the nice old houses, you’d stumble upon it after the bigger homes give way to a series of California bungalows. It’s there before E turns right into 19th. Across the street from the church, a chain-link fence lines the sidewalk above the 5 where the homeless set up camp on a regular basis before they are swept out and relocated only to return again when the police shift their attention elsewhere. Historically, the church itself is a product of a relocation of a different sort. As my City College colleague, historian Susan Hasegawa informed me, it was originally founded as the Japanese Holiness Church by Christian Nikkei (immigrants and their descendents) in 1930 and located on Newton Avenue. Sponsored by the Oriental Mission Society, the church focused its efforts on outreach to Issei (first generation immigrant) farmers.

North Park Presbyterian Church

North Park Presbyterian is a church committed to Christ and His mission for the glory of God and the good of the world. NPP started as a church plant in 2014 with the vision to see people come to know and love Jesus throughout San Diego. We believe Jesus accomplishes his mission in the world through preaching the gospel, planting churches, and loving our neighbors. Pastor Adriel was ordained in 2013 after graduating from Westminster Seminary in California. He served as an assistant pastor prior to planting NPP. Alongside pastoring NPP, Pastor Adriel is the host of a daily call-in Bible answer program called Core Christianity. You can listen to it at www.corechristianity.com/radio. North Park Presbyterian Church is a part of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA).  The PCA is a Reformed Christian denomination that places a high emphasis on the teachings of the Bible.

Exodus Church

On February 15, 2015, Exodus United Methodist Church held it charge conference and four ministries joined together to become Exodus United Methodist Church.  In June 2015 at California-Pacific Annual Conference, Exodus United Methodist Church received its official charter.  Rev. Dr. Donald Owens was appointed by the Annual Conference as Pastor of Exodus United Methodist Church. We thank God for bringing us this far by faith.

Crossroads of the Nations Japanese Ministry (Brentwood, TN 37027)

We are a multi-cultural and multi-congregations church worshiping God in multiple languages. We are a congregation of the Presbyterian Church In America (PCA). We are blessed that God would give us each other to experience Him through the richness of cultural diversity. Most of the Japanese in Middle Tennessee are here temporarily as business families or researchers. Our vision and goal is to help them see the unconditional love of Christ and hear His living Word. We are here to help their felt needs such as improving English, being a friend, and helping them to adjust. In our time together we also share the Word of God. Our prayer is for their salvation and know we can be a part of their journey if the Lord so grants. It would be great if they join the afternoon Japanese/English Sunday services to familiarize themselves with worship and fellowship. This would make it easier for them to pursue the same in Japan when they return. We can refer them to fellowships in Japan.
