Pastorgraphs: “You Can Help Us Help Others”

Are you going to do any shopping online this holiday season (and thereafter)? If so, you can help support the ministries of Christ Ministry Center without spending an extra dime!

Last week, CUMMC joined an innovative program called UMCmarket.org. It is a way anyone who makes an online purchase with any of the major participating merchants (Amazon, Walmart, Macys, Lowes, Office Depot, etc.) can support Christ Ministry Center. For instance, Amazon will send Christ Ministry Center $4.50 for every $100 purchase made through UMCmarket!

Here’s how it works. You register at UMCmarket.org (no cost) and select us (listed as “Christ United Methodist Ministry Center of San Diego CA”) as the beneficiary of your online purchase credits. Then, instead of going to Amazon directly online (or any of the dozens of top retailers), you first go to UMCmarket.org, and then click on the Amazon logo to shop as you normally do. When you make your purchase, no matter how large or small, Amazon knows that you want the 4.5% credit to go to us! How cool is that? Amazon and the other merchants will send us a check each month.

Again, it doesn’t cost you a penny, but will help us tremendously in our ministry to help the helpless. You do not have to be a Methodist or live in San Diego.

For many years, grocery stores and other local merchants have had similar “scrip” fundraising programs to benefit schools, charities and churches. This is a new variation on that old idea.

So if you shop online, why not let the merchants send a donation based on your purchase to help the helpless, hungry and homeless?

The Christmas shopping season is a week shorter than normal because of the way Thanksgiving fell on the calendar this year. This Friday starts the mad shopping rush, and more folks are electing to do their shopping online. What a wonderful gift to Christ Ministry Center if you support our ministries in this way, this Christmas and thereafter!

Thank you very much in advance for considering this simple means of supporting Christ Ministry Center. And bless you, United Methodist leaders, for creating this innovative way to support our churches and ministries.

And don’t forget, you are invited to the Annual Thanksgiving Meal, 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM this Thursday, sponsored by Exodus Church and others. We anticipate over 300 meals will be served, including many senior citizens, homeless and others in need from our community.

Devotedly yours, Bill Jenkins, Pastor

From the Quote Garden:
On Thanksgiving: “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”
