TO RISE UP – TO BE – TO CHANGE

TO RISE UP – TO BE – TO CHANGE

(CLIMB TOWARDS HIM, BE WITH HIM, CHANGE FOR HIM)

Today's gospel (Mark 9:2-10) tells us about that time when Jesus went up in the company of three of his apostles and was Transfigured before them. That moment was surrounded by some elements in which today Christians discover the presence of the Holy Trinity, and the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets in the beloved Son of God.

This experience certainly left the witnesses impressed; they were able to experience something that they could only imagine when they remembered Moses himself going up the Mount to see God face to face and speak with Him.

That this story is just within the second Sunday of Lent cannot be coincidental, of course this story is offered to us with a purpose, and that is that, in my opinion, we are also called to rise to have an authentic encounter with God, to then be their witnesses. It is necessary that as witnesses we experience Jesus Christ firsthand, know Him as He is, and encourage ourselves to be as authentic as He is with us, but not before understanding that we are all equally called to change, to leave old ways of being, to be more as we should be, without losing our fundamental identity. This fundamental identity is what our humanity has often not understood, since we are those who “made in the image and likeness of God”, we are also called his sons and daughters.

Ultimately, the fact that this gospel is offered to us today is to remind us that in this time of Lent we must strive to equally transfigure ourselves. When Easter arrives, we should be able to discover that something in us has changed and we look a little more like the very beloved Children of God. Amen.
