Respect Life Sunday with pastor Carlos
Respect Life
Sunday
Each year the U.S.
Catholic Church observes October as Respect Life Month, and today, the first
Sunday in October, is Respect Life Sunday. The Catholic Church is one of the
only religious groups that still maintains the infinite value of human life
from beginning to its end.
In the case of the Ambres,
the pregnancy was definitely not “unwanted.” However, sometimes in our
catechism program a girl becomes pregnant. I would like our parish to not only
say that we uphold the dignity of life from its conception, but also to back
these words with action: to be able to talk to the parents and the student, and
offer some financial assistance for the costs of the pregnancy and birth, so
that the parents and the girl feel less financial pressure to abort the unborn
child. This effort would be done in collaboration with other agencies and
organizations that provide resources to adolescent pregnant women.
Since all of our ordinary
income is needed for operational costs and repairs and maintenance, and we
barely broke even last year, my sense would be to create a designated fund with
designated donations, which we keep on deposit with the Diocese. We will begin
the fund if we receive $500. Checks
would be payable to St Patrick Church. Please write in the memo field “Pregnancy Support.”
God bless, Fr. Carlos, OSA
