To
the 2012 "Vatileaks" and other controversies that have enwrapped
Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano in recent years have been added the
release and reaction to the publication Aug. 26 of an 11-page letter
from the 77-year-old prelate that accuses dozens of high-level church
officials of a sex-abuse cover-up over allegations against former
Cardinal Theodore McCarrick.

U.S.
cardinals issued separate statements pointedly rejecting allegations
made by Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano. Some bishops, however, backed him
as "a man of truthfulness, faith and integrity."
