Mother’s Day

My mother passed away 25 years ago, as did my father. I remember them because they were a gift from God to bring me into this world. They raised me and passed their faith to me by word and example. I am who I am because of them. I find it hard, personally, to remember one without including the other. I know that they each have their separate days to be honored, but I remember them as a couple.

My mother was the healer in the family. Whenever there was a problem, she was the “go to” person. She would listen and finally would say that everything would work it’s way back and not to worry.

My father was more of the rule maker and would tell us why we had violated something and hence needed to fix what we had broken. I thought of him as not very sympathetic. In time, I came to realize that I had to be more responsible for my mistakes and consequently learned lessons.

Together, my parents healed and helped us to grow up and be ready to find our path in life with a moral compass to lead and guide us. It was not always so easy, but we needed to be responsible people for our actions.

So this Mother’s Day, I remember my mother and know that her other half, my father, played a part.

May they rest in peace!
God Bless, Fr. Michael, O.S.A.

We, the church of Saint Patrick, in the community of North Park,
of the Roman Catholic Diocese and City of San Diego,
declare this to be our primary mission:
to come together to celebrate the Eucharist,
hear God’s word proclaimed,
give praise and thanksgiving to God,
and develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
We believe that by freely sharing our faith, talents, and treasures,
we discover Christ’s presence among us and bring Him to others.
We have a strong desire to give and receive love, service, peace, support,
and fellowship, within our families, our parish, our community, and the world.
Open to the power of the Holy Spirit, we pursue this mission faithfully and lovingly.
