Pastorgraphs: “Semper Fidelis”
San
Diego is most fortunate to be home to Camp Pendleton and Miramar Marine
Bases as well as seven US Navy Bases. Thousands of Marines and
Sailors pass through San Diego as part of their training and service.
Not only are they a blessing to our nation, they are a blessing to our
community.
Rarely
do we have an opportunity to return the favor. But an awesome and
challenging opportunity to serve our servicemen and women has come our
way.
On
April 30, Christ Ministry Center will participate in the
“Relationship, Parenting and Marriage (RPM) Expo” at Miramar Marine
Base. Over 3,500 Marines and Sailors will attend.
The
purpose of The Expo is to let our Marines and Navy men and women know
what services are available for them in San Diego in an effort to
strengthen military family relationships and handle hardships that
confront them and their families.
This event is tailor made for CMC’s MyFOUNT.com project!
MyFOUNT.com is a free user-friendly website database of services being provided by churches, charities and social agencies.
Thanks
to Chaplain Hailane Chan-Williams, (UMC Elder), inviting us to
participate, Anita and I will set up a booth at the Expo, and make
contact with as many of our Servicemen and women as possible.
This will be a huge undertaking. Your prayers and support are most welcomed.
On
another note, while a guiding principle of my Pastorgraphs is to NOT
use this means to promote events, there comes a time when I would be
remiss if I did not do so. So please permit me to emphasize two events
of utmost importance.
PICTORIAL DIRECTORY: LifeTouch
(formerly Olan Mills) will be here this week, Friday and Saturday, to
take individual and family portraits for our first pictorial directory
in over a decade. There is no cost or obligation. Plus, you will get
one complimentary 8x10 portrait for free, and a copy of the directory
when it is published. The value of the directory will be in proportion
to how many of our members participate. The directory will help us
put names and faces together, enriching our fellowship.
Anyone affiliated with Christ Ministry Center or Exodus United Methodist Church is invited to participate, including our non-Methodist congregations and dozen charities that call CMC home!
If you have not scheduled a 30-minute session for this Friday or
Saturday, please do so TODAY. Contact Jeannetta Kramer at (619)
284-9205.
CHURCH COUNCIL: This
Saturday at 9:00 a.m., we will conduct the first Church Council meeting
of the newly constituted Exodus UMC. We will meet in the Chapel. Each
church officer and committee members elected at the Constituting
Conference on February 15 is urged to attend. That includes members of
the Nominating/Leadership, Finance, and Staff Parish Relations
committees, Trustees and Lay Leader for each of the four ministry
sections (Exodus, Christ Chapel, Hispanic and Haitian ministries).
In
addition to an orientation session, each committee or group will hold
“breakout sessions” to organize and plan their work. Job descriptions
for each Council member will be distributed.
For Christ’s sake,
Bill Jenkins
From The Quote Garden:
“Latin
for "always faithful," Semper Fidelis became the Marine Corps motto in
1883. It guides Marines to remain faithful to the mission at hand, to
each other, to the Corps and to country, no matter what. Becoming a
Marine is a transformation that cannot be undone, and Semper Fidelis is a
permanent reminder of that. Once made, a Marine will forever live by
the ethics and values of the Corps.”
