HONOR THOSE WHO DIED HOMELESS IN SAN DIEGO IN 2010

San Diego Rescue Mission and partners will hold the 9th Annual Candlelight Vigil on Sunday, Nov. 7th, in honor of the 50 men and women who died alone while homeless in our community this past year.

Those who died will be honored with an interfaith candlelight service. Each man and woman's name will be read aloud.

WHEN & WHERE: Sunday, November 7th, 2010, rain or shine

3:00 PM - Walking Procession Departs from San Diego Rescue Mission (120 Elm Street, San Diego) - Driving Directions
*VANS WILL BRING VIGIL ATTENDEES BACK TO SDRM AFTER PROGRAM ENDS

4:00 PM - Program at County Administration Center, on West stairs off Harbor Drive (1600 Pacific Highway, San Diego) - Driving Directions

WHY: To pay our respects to those who have died alone on the streets of our county in the past year. To bring awareness to the citizens of our community about the fact that there are close to 8,000 men, women and children living each day without shelter in San Diego.

WHO: Herb Johnson, President/CEO San Diego Rescue Mission; Local religious leaders; Community Leaders; Homeless men, women and children who have lost friends and loved ones; hundreds of concerned members of the San Diego community.
PARKING:
Procession Parking:
- SDRM visitor garage on 1st Ave just north of Elm St
- 1st Presbyterian Church lots (320 Date St.)
- Street parking at any of the stops
- Meters are free on Sunday!

Main Program Parking:
-Free parking is available at the County Building's On-site Parking Lot (1600 Pacific Highway, San Diego)
**The Procession to the Vigil will depart from the Mission (120 Elm Street, assembling at the corner of 2nd Avenue and Elm) at 3:00 PM. We will proceed down to the West side of the County Administration Center on Harbor Dr., making several stops to pray and reflect. Stops include: First Presbyterian Church at 320 Date St, TACO on 3rd & Ash, and the East side of the County Administration Center. Individuals in the procession will carry down a pair of shoes to represent one of the deceased homeless men and women.
