The sermon for March 2, the 4th Sunday in Lent at Plymouth Congregational Church is titled, "Opening the Eyes of the Soul" and is based on the account of Jesus healing of a man blind since birth in John, chapter 9. This is more than a historical event and it is definitely not just about that one man but indeed about mankind. We can find ourselves in this passage if we are bold and honest enough to discern our own condition. This compelling story of restoration of sight to this man, blind from birth, serves as a background for Jesus' pronouncement that He is "the light of the world"; re-echoing the theme from the prologue to John's Gospel, "That the true light which lights every man was coming into the world." Sight, and seeing, and light are all woven together. He came to let light into our spirits-- our souls. He came to restore our sight! During Lent, let's especially remember that we need the touch of the Master's hand; we need His light to come more fully into our lives, our spirits and our souls.

There is more than one kind of blindness
