The care of migrants is deeply rooted in the biblical mandate to love and serve others, particularly the vulnerable and marginalized. Scripture repeatedly calls God’s people to welcome the stranger, care for the sojourner, and show hospitality to those in need (Leviticus 19:33-34, Deuteronomy 10:18-19). Jesus’s Great Commandment to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind and to love our neighbor as ourselves (Matthew 22:37-39) expands this call to radical compassion and selfless service. In the parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus reminds us that our neighbor is not limited by borders or identity but anyone in need of mercy and care. In our baptismal covenant, every Episcopalian commits to “respect the dignity of every human being.” As Christians, we are called to embody Christ’s love by advocating for and ministering to migrants, recognizing their inherent dignity as children of God, and responding to their needs with justice, kindness, and open hearts.

COURAGEOUS LOVE CAMPAIGN: GRANTS FOR TRANSFORMING COMMUNITIES By: Jason Evans, Canon for Mission In the spirit of fostering courage and love, EDSD is proud to announce the availability of grants through the Courageous Love Campaign. These grants, made possible by the generosity of donors, will play a pivotal role in realizing the EDSD's strategic plan to strengthen congregations, serve communities, and nurture church growth. The campaign aligns with the diocese's mission to equip Episcopalians to share God's love and Christ's Good News with those who may not be familiar with His teachings. The Courageous Love Campaign grants, available throughout the year, prioritize projects that align with the EDSD's strategic plan. These grants aim to boost congregational membership and average weekly attendance, engage in congregational discipleship programs, organize events that welcome non-congregational participants, start worship services reaching new populations, improve outreach practices, and underwrite community events. THE EASTER INVITATION

 

BORDER CHURCH ON 11 DECEMBER, 2022

On Sunday, December 11, Bishop Susan Brown Snook will visit Border Church—a bi-national worshiping community of migrants, the deported, and their loved ones. Joining her will be Presiding Bishop Michael Curry, ELCA Synod Bishop David Nagley, and Bishop William Barber of the Poor People’s Campaign. Since November 2011, people from the United States and Mexico have gathered each Sunday afternoon to share communion at Friendship Park, the historic border meeting place at the western edge of the border, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Somehow, mysteriously, the border wall becomes the table of the Lord as people gather on both sides of the border to celebrate the love of Christ together.   Worship begins at 1:30 pm. Good News Festival guests and Episcopalians will gather on the US side at 12:30 pm to hike to Friendship Park. (Be prepared for up to 2 miles hike in each direction. Sharing The Story - Evangelism Class:  STARTS TONIGHT!
Have you ever wanted to learn to share your faith with confidence and humility? Do you struggle to know how to build a genuine friendship and be bold in talking about Jesus at the same time? Come spend 7 weeks with Pastor Stephen to grow in your understanding of how evangelism and apologetics function in light of the great story that we all find ourselves in. You will be challenged to go beyond theory and put what you learn into practice.  This class can be taken as a part of Harbor's LAMP Seminary Program for credit towards a degree - RSVP to Eric at erick@harborpc.org if you are interested in this option, otherwise just show up to the first class!
