A giant golden statue depicting U.S. President Donald Trump naked and sitting on the shoulders of a smaller man has been unveiled inside the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France.
Created by Danish artist Jens Galschiøt, the 23-karat gold-coated sculpture is titled “The Orange Plague” and stands around 2.6 metres tall. The artist says the work criticises Trump’s approach to democratic values, the rules-based international order and climate change.
The sculpture arrives at the European Parliament amid renewed tensions between Trump and Europe. Trump has repeatedly criticised the continent over migration, defence and NATO, and recently blamed France’s massive student protests on “mass migration” and Islam, despite the movement’s stated demands focusing on education.
