The good news is that the number of abortions in American has declined. The bad news is that there are still more than a million too many. The NAE asks its churches to observe July 18, 2010 as the National Day of Prayer for the Gulf by setting aside time in their weekend services to pray for the people of the Gulf, the Lord's intervention and deliverance, and the impacts of the oil spill on God's creation. (read more)
The NAE welcomes President Obama’s announcement July 1 that he will work to fix our broken immigration system. The speech at American University reflects the principles that the NAE outlined last October in its immigration resolution. (read more)
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration expects three to seven major hurricanes this season, which exceeds the seasonal average of two major storms. The NAE compiled a checklist for churches from several different sources. Be prepared not only to protect your church from a major storm but also to reach out to those in your community and beyond who are affected by natural disasters. (read more)
The Supreme Court upheld the lower court’s ruling allowing Hastings University College of Law to not recognize the Christian Legal Society student chapter at the law school. While a setback for CLS and religious liberty, the Court’s decision is narrow due to the “all-comers” policy unique to Hastings. (read more)
Following an amicus brief supported by the NAE and others, the U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear an appeal in a matter involving damages for violations of the federal Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (RLUIPA). The issue is whether Congress abrogated sovereign immunity when adopting the legislation such that a state can be ordered to pay damages when state officials act in violation of RLUIPA. (read more)
Responding to the May Evangelical Leaders Survey question, “Do you socially drink alcohol?”. 60 percent said “no” while 40 percent said “yes.” (read more)
Evangelical leaders are overwhelmingly open to artificial methods of contraception, according to the April Evangelical Leaders Survey. Nearly 90 percent said they approved of artificial methods of contraception. In a separate poll conducted by the NAE in partnership with Gallup, Inc., 90/91 percent of evangelicals find hormonal/barrier methods of contraception to be morally acceptable for adults. (read more)
The Bishop Kevin Leibensperger died unexpectedly on June 1 in a car crash. Bishop Leibensperger represented the Evangelical Congregational Church on the NAE Board of Directors from 2008 to present. He was the senior pastor at Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church in Douglass Township, Pa., for 22 years. He had a passion for church planting and growing the kingdom of God. (read more)
