We Will Be "Clinging To Hope" at Plymouth Church on Sunday Morning

Greek mythology holds that at one time there was no evil in the world because the gods got together and put all of the evils in a box. It was called "Pandora's Box." But evil was let into the world by a curious and careless god who, one day cracked open the lid to peer inside. It was then that the evils escaped into the world.

According to this mythological story, the last of the evils to escape from Pandora's Box was Hope. The ancient Greeks considered hope an evil, in much the same way that Karl Marx considered religion an evil. In these views, hope and religion are the "opiate of the people." In these views, both deny reality, or at least, refuse to deal with reality. Among other things, Christianity takes an opposing view of these positions about religion and hope.

The sermon is titled, "Clinging To Hope" and is based upon God's promise in Isaiah 11:1-10 and Paul's letter to Romans 15:1-6.
