SERMON TITLE: "BEING FAITHFUL CITIZENS"

The sermon for Veterans Day, November 11, departs from the Lectionary readings and is based upon Joshua 24:14-24 and Paul's letter to the Romans, 13:1-7. It is very sad, and somewhat ironic, that the week before our Nation pauses to honor our Veterans, the New York Times, Washington Post and San Diego Union Tribune publish articles about the growing problem of homelessness among our Veterans. And the disturbing thing is that the growing problem includes Veterans of the current war in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as veterans of the earlier Gulf War. Should this be of concern to people of faith?
