Come to Plymouth Church this coming Sunday and hear a message of "Amazing Faith". There are only two places in the Gospels that describe Jesus as being "amazed". One is in Luke where He is amazed at the profound faith of a Gentile Centurion who comes asking Jesus to heal his servant; the other account is in Mark where he is "amazed" at the lack of faith of those in the Synagogue in Nazareth where He could do "no mighty works because of their unbelief". These are stories from the ancient past -- but as we enter the season of Pentecost in which the Church emphasizes the challenge of grow in our faith and our service, these stories are to raise the question for each Christian, "Would Jesus be amazed by my faith? If so, would it be because it is so strong -- or because like the religious at Nazareth, it is so lacking?" The positive qualities of the Centurion will be emphasized so we can compare and contrast the qualities of our own faith.Thursday, June 7, 2007
