The NAE Board approved a resolution at its semiannual meeting in October calling for new efforts toward verifiable multilateral reductions in nuclear weapons and ratification of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty. (read more)

Millions of Americans grew up fearing nuclear attack from the Soviet Union. We practiced taking cover under our school desks, and learned the location of the nearest air raid shelter. We watched anxiously as the Cuban missile crisis unfolded. Our nation and world survived under the shadow of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD). But now we find ourselves in a different world – one that includes Iran, rogue nations, clandestine terrorist groups and the ongoing threat of human error. ( read more)
Currently one in six newborn children in the United States has harmful levels of mercury in their blood. Mercury exposure can cause permanent neurological damage. The unborn and young children can be protected by reducing pollution from coal-fired power plants, using existing technologies. The NAE cosponsored a Senate staff briefing on the topic, and joined the Evangelical Environmental Network and Esperanza in placing an advertisement in Politico. ( see the ad)
In May, Galen Carey, NAE Vice President of Government Relations, joined other religious leaders in asking the Major League Baseball Players Association to prohibit the use of tobacco at games. The new agreement, which was announced on Nov. 28, marks a significant step in the process. (read more)

The World Evangelical Alliance will host a summit in Washington, D.C., Feb.7-8, 2012, in which Egyptian Christian leaders will provide an update on the Church in Egypt and framework for how to best partner with the Egyptian Christian community. RSVP by Dec. 10 to Marcus Lundin. (RSVP now)
Know Shelter is a new Two Futures Project initiative aimed at equipping urban congregations and communities to save lives in the event of a nuclear terrorist attack. Security experts agree that the likelihood of such an attack may be rising. (read more)
