QUEST: Homelessness
For the past two months,
VOSD reporter Kelly Bennett has been on a quest to learn about the scope of homelessness in San
Diego.
She's talked to people on
all sides of the issue, from the homeless themselves to the many different
agencies, advocates and politicians who are trying to understand and solve the
problem.
On Thursday, February 21,
VOSD will assemble many of those voices under one roof - inside the City of San
Diego's Emergency Winter Shelter run by the Alpha Project - to help frame the discussion in a unique
and meaningful way.
Please join us for this
important conversation starting at 6 p.m. The general public is welcome and
admission is free, however space is limited.
Please register now to help provide a head count.
The Alpha Project Winter
Shelter will be open and the beds are expected to be full. If you would like to
volunteer to serve dinner from 4:00 to 5:30 that evening, please contact Zack Warma. We are
looking for about 12 volunteers.
If you're interested in
donating supplies to the Alpha Project, these items are needed:
-
hygiene products
-
feminine hygiene products
-
tooth brushes
-
tooth paste
-
blankets
-
Twin bed sheets
-
socks
-
underwear (both men and women)
-
sweaters/jackets/heavy winter clothing
Representatives from
several local organizations will be in attendance to provide information about
other volunteer opportunities.
Thank you.
