Wrapping Up October: Month of Missions and Life
Wrapping Up
October: Month of Missions and Life
Thank you to two donors
who have donated a total of $1,000 for the new designated fund to support
teenage mothers. I hope none of our students will be in such a situation again,
but if it occurs, we have the funds to provide some financial assistance. As I
wrote before, I think that if we promote the inviolable dignity of human life
from its conception, we cannot leave women without support when they are in a
precarious situation. Since this campaign was successful, then perhaps we will
do it again next year in October. Meanwhile the funds will be earning interest,
thanks to the Diocese.
Last Sunday we celebrated
World Mission Sunday, and one of our parishioners approached us about donating
$3,000 to a Mission in Africa that we would know about. When Fr. Phil and I
were studying theology in Chicago, we happened to live for a year with Fr.
Emmannuel Thliza, OSA from Nigeria. Fr. Emmanuel was studying to be a formation
director at the time. So I contacted him, and told him about our special
donation. Fr. Emmanuel told me about a Catholic school he’s administering,
which is in great need of financial assistance. He sent us some pictures of
happy students in classrooms with great need of repair. The donation we received
will go a long way.
Our own school is blessed
with dedicated parents and parishioners who did a great job for the Fall
Festival. The numbers are not final yet since some bills still need to be paid,
but the unofficial report from bookkeeping is that it netted about $42,000 for
our school. Thank you to all the sponsors and to everyone who made it possible.
At the last school
marketing meeting on Monday, we discussed various projects and initiatives targeted
to increase enrollment. One strategy is to increase the visibility of the
wonderful community at St Patrick School, and thanks to our marketing team, we
will be highlighted on Thursday at 8:25 AM on Fox 5 Morning News. Also, the
Fall Festival video will be coming up soon on the school website.
On Friday, we will
celebrate the Solemnity of All the Saints (a holy day of obligation) with Mass
at 8:00 AM, and 5:30 PM; and on Saturday morning, the 8:00 AM Mass will be in
commemoration of All the Faithful Departed. The Saturday evening Mass will be
the Mass for Sunday, but we will read again the names of the parishioners who
have died this year.
God bless,Fr. Carlos, OSA
