Agua Questions

The city of San Diego's Water Department is in the midst of crafting a plan to address the water cuts that are expected to come from the Los Angeles-based Metropolitan Water District this summer.

Instead of limiting irrigation to specific days as a way to cut use, the city is planning to calculate residents' average consumption from 2005 to 2007 and ration a specific percentage of that. Residents or businesses that exceed their allotment would pay a rate between two and four times higher than normal.

I'm sitting down tomorrow afternoon with Alex Ruiz, the Water Department's assistant director, to question him about the plan for a Qamp;A that will run this weekend. If you have questions or concerns about water-supply cuts to pose to the city, e-mail them to me before noon Thursday at rob.davis@voiceofsandiego.org

Alternately, you can go straight to the top. Mayor Jerry Sanders is holding three water forums next week to gather public input.
